A Message from the Ambassador
Amb. Jamal Mohamed Barrow
It is honor to me to welcome you to the Embassy of Federal Republic of Somalia in Abuja, Nigeria. As the Federal Government of Somalia is reviewing its foreign policy, it sees the Federal Republic of Nigeria as a strategic regional power. So, it is an enviable for the Federal Republic of Somalia to develop a strong diplomatic relation with Nigeria based on the international conventions.
In line with the important roles that Nigeria plays in the world diplomacy, the Federal Government Somalia, decided to reopen its Embassy in Abuja, which had been closed more than for 30 years ago. Now, the diplomatic mission of Somalia in Abuja is fully operational, carrying out its duties in a conducive environment.
In fact, Somalia and Nigeria share common diplomatic issues in the areas of security, political and economic. On the other hand, Nigeria is among a few African states that play significant roles in the global governing system.
Therefore, I am extremely happy to be the first Ambassador appointed to Nigeria after more than for 30 years, representing my beloved country. To me it was challenging to start the work from the scratch, but, I believe, some has been commenced accordingly. Imagine, when you are assigned conduct a diplomatic mission in a country with a population of 200 million people, like, Nigeria and could not get all the required facilities. Worse to that, my arrival in Abuja has coincided with the breakout of the pandemic disease of COVID 19 and the country was under total lockdown.
But, due to the cooperation of the people and government of Nigeria, especially the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Nigeria, I was able to overcome all the challenges and obstacles faced by me. Therefore, my highest gratitude is to the people and government of Nigeria for their hospitality.
